FADE IN:

INT. ROOM OF SCIENCE – DAY

We slowly pan over what appears to be random charts, graphs, whiteboards and blackboards with mathematical formulas, all cluttered together as organized chaos…

Until the pan takes us to an extreme close-up of Darren, determined look as it settles right below eye level.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

If I have understood correctly

velocity equals the distance traveled

divided by time

From an array of close-ups he starts to PUSH, FLIP, SLIDE buttons, switches and such.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I’ve read every word ever printed

on quantum physics

and now it is time to try

I read your book

I found your notes

I dusted this thing off

and turned on the key

Darren, along with all things in frame (still close-ups) begin to vibrate as he continues starting up whatever contraption he’s in.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

The rumbling the motors

the buzzing incredible gadgets

the hissing electricity

Wide Shot – For the first time the machine is revealed in its entirety…

Two large rings (about 7 feet tall) rotate around Darren in opposite directions while he and the center frame he’s attached to remain still with the exception of the vibrating.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

And now the moment has come

He reaches out and pushes one last button.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I’m traveling back in time

The rings begin to pick up SPEED while at the same time a BRIGHT LIGHT starts to ENGULF Darren in the machine. (Starting from the base, vibration increasing)

INSERT SHOT – Close-up, the legs/shoes of a few scientists as they RUN down the hall… (Towards camera, background distorted)

LYRICS

They’re running down the hall

BACK TO SCENE

Extreme close-up, turning from 10 to 9 the numbers on Darren’s countdown stopwatch are large.

LYRICS

I’ve started the countdown

INSERT SHOT – Wide, with the surrounding images distorted we can’t really make out the faces of the scientists as they RUN towards camera in Slo-Mo while throwing their hands up in front of them to motion STOP.

LYRICS

They want me to stop

BACK TO SCENE

Extreme close-up, Darren’s mouth.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

But I don’t think so

Quickly fall back to a wide, the machine working overtime WITH THE INCREDIBLE SPEED and LIGHT it emanates.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I’m ready to go

Extreme close-up, black shades come down over Darren’s eyes.

Darren Hayes in shades, music video script.

LYRICS

Let’s get the job done

From wide we shoot in on him… (Surroundings start to transform into LIGHT SPEED)

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

Beyond the paradoxical

… And ricocheting off into a POV shot.

LYRICS

All the lights are dazzling

SPEEDING PAST TIME, with the LYRICS in the images amongst the sensory overload.

LYRICS

Pass the planes and trains

and satellite navigation

Pass the time I spent today

We enter a wormhole, which makes the travel so much FASTER.

Wormhole

LYRICS

Through the nearest wormhole

EVERYTHING EXPLODES INTO WHITENESS.

LYRICS

In a stunning ball

of white

the light explodes and lands on you

And we fade back in on a little boy (or is it a little girl with short hair?) looking straight ahead to camera. (POV)

LYRICS

And you’re five

Before running away and being put on mommy’s lap as she sits in a moving truck.

LYRICS

Always running away

when I was dying to kiss you

The child looks back out to camera one more time.

LYRICS

And I

And is then driven off, camera quickly pushing ahead and travels beside the truck as if the short POV runs alongside it.

LYRICS

I don’t want to cry

Transitioning to fast-forward camera rises up and above the truck as it SPEEDS down the streets of Brisbane.

LYRICS

I don’t want to see

where the moving van takes you

We tilt up and fly high and away, through the atmosphere…

Atmosphere.

LYRICS

So I travel on

Beyond stars…

Cosmos

LYRICS

Beyond the stars

And to WARP SPEED.

Warp Speed, image for music video.

LYRICS

at 186,000 mi./s I can fly

Trembling diagonally through the frame from bottom left to top right of the passing years.

1976…

1977…

1978…

The warp speed EXPLODES to a calm night’s sky. (POV – descending back to earth)

LYRICS

Forward a few years

two nineteen hundred and seventy-nine

I caught a glimpse of the sky

Right before POV hits pavement it shoots down the road and towards a pair of oncoming headlights.

LYRICS

They’re coming down the road

Extreme close-up, Darren’s mouth.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

They’re coming to get me

Camera at his back, he quickly covers the time machine with a large tarp.

LYRICS

I never should have come

Then turns around it and rushes out of frame.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I hide the time machine

POV Shot – A pair of pajama-slippered little boy feet run down the hall.

LYRICS

I’m running down the hall

We tilt up and pan left to right in a living room.

LYRICS

I think I’m in my old house

END POV

From an exterior shot outside the house we pan over to Darren standing in the middle of the street (looking from house to camera with pan) and start to track him (frontal) as he begins to RUN, turning with him on each landmark he SINGS of (as it passes, the movement and imagery sort of like a videogame)

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

Pass the place where I grew up

number 9 Lake Rd.

Pass the swimming pool

and Mabel Park

and past Troy Clifford’s house

to the Argonaut

To the fish and chip shop

out the back and down the road

And to the place I got beat up

On that LAST VERSE we switch to POV as Darren makes that last turn around a corner.

With BEATS he runs right into an adolescent bully who appears surreally tall.

END POV

And falls back flat on his ass to the ground.

Standing back up to his feet Darren (and us) notices a kid in front of the bully holding a big rock above his head. (Kid’s back to camera)

LYRICS

(Darren to kid)

Hey

Put that rock down

Can’t you see he’s half your size?

Coming around to the kid’s side, Darren looks closer…

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

Hey

He looks familiar

Over Darren’s shoulder, the kid…

LYRICS

Oh my God

Over the kid’s shoulder, Darren…

LYRICS

He’s me

Over Darren’s shoulder, the kid…

LYRICS

Age 9

POV Shot – Speed a bit faster than usual, Darren throws on a pair of sneakers (his body is only that of the size of a nine-year-old) and starts to RUN down the street…

The more he RUNS the FASTER he gets, entering fast-forward as he passes through his old neighborhood and into his childhood home.

LYRICS

Put your shoes on

and run away from here

I can’t get involved

This is all so

When he reaches his bedroom AN EXPLOSION OF WHITE LIGHT ENGULFS ALL. (END POV)

LYRICS

Weird

THE WHITE LIGHT dissipates, revealing present Darren staring at his nine-year-old self sitting on his bed moving to the music he plays on an old tape player, above his bed a poster of Michael Jackson. (Young Darren’s back to us)

Young Darren Hayes.

As if in a warped realm camera starts to continuously encircle the two Darrens.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I’m meeting myself

This is all so clear

And when MUSIC SLOWS nine-year-old Darren turns his head around and to his future self, the encircling continuing but in the opposite direction as camera. (Camera speed significantly slower)

On last few rotations we discover present Darren is nine again, the two mirror images staring at each other.

The present but young again Darren begins to walk in reverse back down the hall, out the house, through the neighborhood, all while images of his past (family, events, etc.) whiz past him, every so often slowing down to Slo-Mo for a moment before returning to fast-forward, Darren himself somewhat slow.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

All the things I’ve lost

All the people I’ve hurt

All the times I lied

All the moments wasted all I never did

All the dreams I had

All the things I would change

I can change them

He stops in the middle of the street, all his past memories having grown so enormous around him as he looks up at them while continuously turning around in 360s.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

All the things I lost

All the I people hurt

POV Shot – Inside the eye of the superimposed tornado of memories.

LYRICS

All the times I lied

All the moments wasted

END POV

It DISSOLVES around Darren, who is now back to his adult self.

And he starts to walk fast back down the street, his memories once again taking shape on his sides only now IN REWIND.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I’m gonna make right

What I did wrong

and change how the future has come

through appliance of science

I’ll take a hold of my enemies

take their obscenities

kiss them

and leave them like lovers who’ve gone

He starts to RUN…

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I’ll call my dad

I’ll tell him I miss him

and tell my reflection

it’s not your fault

We push into an extreme close-up while at the same time rotating around his head.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

And now the moment has come

MATCH CUT:

Falling back from the extreme close-up Darren is once again strapped to the time machine and powering it up.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I’m traveling back in time

INSERT SHOT – Close-up, the legs/shoes of a few scientists as they RUN down the hall… (Towards camera, background distorted)

LYRICS

They’re running down the hall

BACK TO SCENE

Extreme close-up, turning from 5 to 4 the large red numbers on Darren’s stopwatch…

LYRICS

I’ve started the countdown

INSERT SHOT – Wide, with the surrounding images distorted the unclear scientists as they RUN towards camera in Slo-Mo throwing their hands up in front of them to motion STOP.

LYRICS

They want me to stop

BACK TO SCENE

Extreme close-up, Darren’s mouth.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

But I don’t think so

Quickly fall back to wide, Darren in time machine ready to head back to the future…

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I’m ready to go

Extreme close-up, black shades come over Darren’s eyes.

LYRICS

Let’s get the job done

INSERT POV SHOT – Darren ties a pair of sneakers on his nine-year-old feet and takes off RUNNING.

LYRICS

Put your shoes on and

run away from here

BACK TO SCENE

Quickly push in on Darren…

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

I can’t get involved

… And ricochets off him, going into warp speed.

Warp Speed, image for music video.

LYRICS

This is all so weird

Oh my God

It’s me aged nine

Extreme close-up, Darren’s vibrating face traveling through time.

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

Let’s get the job done

We pan away to POV, images of his past whizzing by.

LYRICS

All the things I lost

All the people I hurt

All the times I lied

All the moments wasted

All I never did

All the dreams I had

All the things I would change

I can change them

And the travel turns even more DISORIENTING AND FAST as if on a crazy roller coaster.

LYRICS

Beyond the paradoxical

all the lights are dazzling

Pass the planes and trains

and satellite navigation

Pass the time I spent today

through the nearest wormhole

SO CHAOTIC, SO FAST, we again EXPLODE INTO WHITE…

… Fading back in on present Darren as he finds himself standing before a scene where his senior citizen future self is beside his life partner and their kids and grandkids. (Pan from scene to shocked present Darren)

LYRICS

(Darren singing)

In a stunning ball

of white

the light explodes into another moment
