FADE IN:

Extreme close-up on black GUITAR PLAYING INTRO, some white powdery substance sprinkling off its strings as it’s played.

EXT. SIDEWALK – DAY

From ground level (AS BEAT COMES IN) we slowly tilt up from a sharp low angle starting from shoes on Uncle Johnny in his expensive yet out-of-date suit (still stuck in the decade he became a man) as he walks down the sidewalk. (SPFX: what looks like a very light snow falls all around him)

Camera comes to rest on a medium close-up of him while continuing to track along on his walk. Uncle Johnny’s in a good mood. Some sniffing here, quick fingers-to-the-nose swipes there. A few friendly nods to passersby.

INT. PARTY – EVENING

We slowly pan over partygoers as they mingle, finding and coming to rest on Uncle Johnny as he finishes up a line of cocaine and sits up nose-twinkling with satisfaction.

Lines of cocaine, for music video script 'Uncle Johnny' by The Killers.

LYRICS

When everybody else refrained

My Uncle Johnny did cocaine

He offers some to a few surrounding smokers and drinkers but they politely decline, knowing better than to take a ride on the white horse.

And so he just sits back, loosening up and feeling al…right.

LYRICS

He’s convinced himself right in his brain

that it helps to take away the pain

All smiles and unable to sit still from the happy dust Uncle Johnny starts to bob his head to the MUSIC.

LYRICS

Hey, Johnny

With his high kickin’ in even stronger his head bobbin’ expression of enjoyment becomes more intense.

LYRICS

Hey what you say Johnny

MATCH CUT:

EXT. THE STRIP – NIGHT

Uncle Johnny and his happy-go-lucky bobbin’ head strut down the brightly lit strip of night Vegas.

Fast forward Vegas, for 'Uncle Johnny' music video script

LYRICS

I wanna go out tonight

Come a little closer to the city lights

Surreal Moment – He starts to levitate, and we begin to rotate with him in 360°s, Vegas nightlife passing in background.

LYRICS

Levitation ain’t your only friend

Levitation coming back again

POV Shot, Levitation- Rotation.

LYRICS

You feel a burning in your body’s core

It’s a yearning that you can’t ignore

MATCH CUT:

INT. CLUB – NIGHT

From high above we corkscrew down on Uncle Johnny doin’ his cokehead bobbin’ dance in the center of a full dance floor.

Ah… To be among like-minded peeps! (Multi-angle)

LYRICS

Now I wanna go out tonight

Superman and hold on tight

He’s convinced himself right in his brain

That it helps to take away the pain

Hey, Johnny

Hey what you say Johnny

DURING BRIEF INSTRUMENTAL…

Slo-Mo, Uncle Johnny and his distorted dance moves.

INT. HOUSE – MORNING

Burnt out, Uncle Johnny opens the front door to find family gathered around waiting for him.

UNCLE JOHNNY1

One of them brings forth a small plastic bag of cocaine. They all look to the little boy in the family then back to Uncle Johnny in disappointment.

LYRICS

My appetite ain’t got no heart

I said my appetite ain’t got no heart

INT. BATHROOM – CONTINUOUS

The bag of cocaine is poured out and flushed down the toilet.

Close-up, Uncle Johnny SCREAMS… (Slo-Mo)

LYRICS

Shocking people when you feel that pull

Close-up on some of his shocked relatives.

LYRICS

Shock ‘em

Close-up on the others.

LYRICS

Drop ‘em

Back to close-up on Uncle Johnny SCREAMING. (Slo-Mo)

LYRICS

When you know it’s full

INT. REHAB GROUP MEETING – DAY

From close-up on a jittery Uncle Johnny we do a rather quick fall back to reveal the many other Uncle Johnnys and Aunt Janes all congregated together. (Some further down the road to recovery while others just as frigid and sensitive as Uncle Johnny)

LYRICS

I feel a burning in my body’s core

It’s a yearning i can’t ignore

I gotta go out tonight

From across the room, Brandon, who’s at the stage where he thinks he’s got it so together yet would relapse at the first sight of a white line, calls out to Johnny…

LYRICS

(Brandon…)

Hey Johnny

I got faith in you man

I mean it

It’s gonna be all right

INT. REHAB GRADUATION – EVENING

Starting from close-up on the recovering Uncle Johnny he tries his best to mingle with the other celebrating students but his quiet jittery desire is still obvious.

He’s convinced himself right in his brain

that it helps to take away the pain

Hey, Johnny

DISSOLVE COCAINE PARTICLES TO:

INT. REHAB GRADUATION – LATER

Uncle Johnny’s peers are gathered around him in support as they sway and SING together. (Brandon and the rest of The Killers closest to him, arms embraced on shoulders)

LYRICS

(The Killers Singing)

Tell us what’s going on

Feels like everything’s wrong

Hey what you say Johnny

If the future is real

Johnny, you’ve got to heal

Hey what you say Johnny

DISSOLVE COCAINE PARTICLES TO:

INT. REHAB GRADUATION – LATER

With the group still pumping each other up with good vibes Uncle Johnny stands a little off to the side as he gazes over to something off-camera…

Slowly start to pan in the direction of his gaze…

Until we find someone PLAYING a shiny black piano, close-up on the keys as a white powdery substance sprinkles off as they’re played.

Close-up, Uncle Johnny’s gaze.

MATCH CUT:

INT. BATHROOM – LATER

From close-up of Uncle Johnny and his still gaze we slowly rotate camera while rising up, revealing him lying dead on the bathroom floor, cocaine, pipe and small mirror near his hand.

My Uncle Johnny did cocaine
