INT. MOTEL ROOM – DAY

Chad comes rushing into the room as if running for his life, immediately throwing himself up against the door and reaching up with one hand to padlock it as someone on the other side starts POUNDING the hell out of it.

He shoots a look over to the dresser and runs over to it, shoving the massive piece of wood against the door to buy him some time.

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

Not like they need to

depend upon anyone

since I can see the lack of need

for me to be here at all

One more

anthem for the know it all

I won’t be standing up for long

I better learn how to crawl

Chad WHIPS AROUND and grabs the phone but the line is dead. He starts to pace back and forth while frantically looking around the room…

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

learn how to crawl

HURRIES into the bathroom, RUSHES out with two towels, wraps one around his hand, swipes up an ashtray and uses it to SHATTER OUT the wall mirror by the sink.

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

In ten minutes

I’ll be laying out flat on the floor

JUMPCUT:

Still standing in front of the sink Chad flips a chair over and BUSTS one of the wooden legs off it, letting the rest fall to the ground as he tosses the leg into the glass covered sink and heads over to his duffel bag on the bed, grabbing some duct tape out of it.

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

Like I need to

defend my own innocence

So what

I did it

I admit it

and I’m pleading the fifth

JUMPCUT:

With one end of the wooden chair leg wrapped with the other towel he starts to wrap the duct tape around it, sticky side out, and secures it when he gets to the end by wrapping it sticky side down again and again.

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

One more

anthem for the know it all

I won’t be standing up for long

I better learn how to crawl

JUMPCUT:

The sticky-wrapped side of the wooden chair leg being rolled back and forth in the pile of broken glass.

We fall back to bring Chad back into frame as he shoots a look back at the door…

Then we pan over to the door, the POUNDING so bad it QUAKES the heavy dresser pushed against it.

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

Learn how to crawl

In ten minutes

I’ll be laying out flat on the floor

Panning back around we find Chad GRABBING all the phonebooks he can (all of two) and the Bible out the end table drawer.

He tosses them all on the bed, camera following and coming to rest on the TV screen nearby, pushing in to it…

LYRICS

Chad Singing)

8 minutes

from losing it a little bit

5 minutes

Your description might be starting to fit

3 to go

And i’m forgetting all that I’ve ever known

I won’t be standing up for long

I better learn how to crawl

Where the FLASHBACK starts to play out.

EXT. MOTEL – DAY

Slo-Mo, Chad walks from the soda machine back to his room.

On the way there he starts to pass a hurly-burly biker who spits a wad of tobacco out which happens to land on Chad’s boot.

They both stop and Chad looks at him, speechless.

Taking it as an excuse to show off some testosterone the rough Rider pushes him…

And Chad puts up a hand like, “hey, wait just a minute!” But is immediately met with another PUSH. That’s all that’s needed for him to respond with a fist to the biker’s face, sending the wide load hard to the ground.

It’s only then when Chad turns to see about a dozen or so more bikers in the parking lot abandoning their bikes and running towards him…

End SLO-MO

He takes off IN A DASH to his room.

END FLASHBACK/BACK TO PRESENT

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

Not like I need to

depend on anyone

Chad wraps duct tape around the open phonebooks wrapped around his forearms.

CUT TO:

He wraps duct tape around his stomach, securing the open Bible against it.

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

Since I can see the lack of need

for me to be here at all

CUT TO:

Chad making a homemade knife with a broken wooden hanger and the broken glass.

LYRICS

(Chad singing)

One more anthem

for the know it all

I won’t be standing up for long

I better learn how to crawl

learn how to crawl

In ten minutes

I’ll be laying out flat on the floor

POV SHOT – he cautiously peeks out the window, the bikers all hanging out a few yards in front of his room just waiting…

LYRICS

(Chad Singing)

I can’t stand up at all

Can’t see nothing at all

CUT TO:

Chad pacing back and forth with glass-dipped club in one hand and knife in the other, pumping himself up for battle…

CUT TO:

His back to it, he reaches out for the doorknob…

Inhales deeply a couple of times…

And RUSHES OUT of the door, freeze-framing on him charging ahead.

LYRICS

In ten minutes

I’ll be laying out flat on the floor

FADE OUT:

Now that you have the video in mind,

song follows,

but first…
