FADE IN:

INT. MASSIVE ROYAL HALL – NIGHT (MEDIEVAL TIMES)

From a hanging banner which reads in Russian and translates to ’Performance of the Clowns’ we fall back, the further we go the wider we get, Russian royalty from different parts of the land and distinguished by colored tapestries sit in their respective terraces overlooking the wide open space below them.

LYRICS

Can you see me now?

Can you see me now?

Can you see…?

A dozen elegant female clowns enter the open space on tiptoe, all twirling and dancing in synchrony, trailing thin banners sailing through the air as one.

LYRICS

All this weeping in the air

Who can tell where it will fall?

Through floating forests in the air

‘Cross the rolling open sea

A dozen more cute female clowns, these with twirling plates on the end of twirling sticks, the whole troupe flawlessly merging together.

LYRICS

Blow a kiss

I run through air

Leave the past

Find nowhere

Floating forests in the air

Clowns are all around you

Now a dozen male clowns join the group, keeping in step with the others while juggling balls.

LYRICS

Clowns that only let you know

Where you let your senses go

Clowns all around you

It’s a cross I need to bear

Followed by the last dozen, also male, masterful moves are masculine yet just as light as the rest.

LYRICS

All this black and cruel despair

This is an emergency

Don’t you hide your eyes from me

Open them and see me now

Seated in one of the overhead terraces, Princess Lena’s eyes gaze upon the forty-eight dancing clowns and up towards the terrace opposite hers, where she sees Princess Yulia watching the performance.

LYRICS

Can you see me now?

Can you see…?

Can you see me now?

Can you see…?

Princess Yulia’s gaze starts to come up as well, and the two make eye contact. Transfixed with one another’s beauty they can’t help but stare…

As if one and unable to hold back any longer they both stand to their feet at the same time, facing each other over this sea of clowns.

LYRICS

See me here in the air

Not holding on to anywhere

But holding on so beware

I have secrets I won’t share

Unaware of what’s really going on Princess Lena’s mother and Princess Yulia’s father look to their daughters long enough to reach out and guide them to sit back down, then return their eyes back to the performance below.

LYRICS

See me here pushing you

If I then deny I do

Contemplate your wish away

If I ask you not to stay

Wanting one another the two princesses desperately look at each other, then quickly glance to their guards before returning their gaze to the other’s beauty…

Their connection tells them what to do next. They both jump out of their seats, run past their surprised guards and off their terraces.

LYRICS

Clowns that only let you know

Where you let your senses go

Clowns all around you

It’s a cross I need to bear

We fall back on Princess Yulia as she runs down a long corridor (towards camera) in search of the one who took her breath away…

LYRICS

All this black and cruel despair

We then cut to Princess Lena hurrying down a long set of steps, also looking to quench her desire…

LYRICS

This is an emergency

LYRICS

Don’t you hide your eyes from me

There on the opposite side Princess Lena arrives, trying to look through any available space between the chaotic clowns.

LYRICS
