FADE IN:

INT. DINER/BAR – EARLY EVENING

As the diners staff prepare for the dinner crowd a waitress in her late 20s/early 30s sets a table near the band, who also sets up for the night.

SUSIE

(to Kenny as he

tunes up his guitar)

So tonight’s your last, huh?

KENNY

‘fraid so.

SUSIE

Well, sure was great havin’ ya.

Hate to see ya leave,

but I guess it’ll be nice

to get back to those larger crowds.

KENNY

Actually, hitting the small towns

are what we most look forward to.

There’s nothing like the familiarity

of home.

SUSIE

So y’all be back to visit some time?

KENNY

You can count on it.

(Gestures to the horse

embroidered on her apron)

And I really wish you the best

with opening up that horse ranch.

Me and the boys would love to come up

and do us some riding.

SUSIE

Anytime.

DISSOLVE TO:

INT. DINER/BAR – NIGHT

The place is buzzin’ with great food, live entertainment and the overall atmosphere of folks enjoyin’ one another…

KENNY

(on his mic)

This next one is actually a little song

we’ve been working on since our stopover.

Kinda like how it turned out. So much so

that we’ve decided to put it on our next album.

Let us know what you think of it, would ya?

Kenny and the band starts to play.

LYRICS

(Kenny singing)

It’s just her and the band

and the clean-up men

She’s counting up her tips

She did alright

She says goodnight

(goodnight)

As Susie serves a table she tilts her head a little in curiosity as the lyrics start to hit home a bit.

LYRICS

(Kenny singing)

She drives home to a three room flat

checks her machine

and she feeds the cat

She’s almost asleep

before she turns out the lights

Headin’ back to the kitchen Susie stops in her tracks as Kenny sings the chorus, a smile coming over her face as she now fully realizes the song is about her.

LYRICS

(Kenny singing)

In her dreams

she rides wild horses

and they carry her away

on the wind

And they never make a sound

as they fly above the ground

Tonight she rides wild horses

again

Kenny and his band perform.

LYRICS

(Kenny singing)

She’s fallen in love a time or two

somehow all of her dreams fell through

but she’s strong

She carries on

In the kitchen but momentarily zoning out the busy staff Susie takes a moment as she leans against the wall by the swing door, a hard swallow/closin’ of the eyes holdin’ back the tears, before she collects herself and gets back to work.

LYRICS

Her life ain’t always gonna be this way

She knows she’s gonna shine someday

But for now

she’ll escape ‘til the dawn

Back to Kenny in the band, with Susie comin’ back out to serve a few more tables.

LYRICS

(Kenny singing)

In her dreams

she rides wild horses

and they carry her away

on the wind

And they never make a sound

as they fly above the ground

Tonight she rides wild horses

again

DURING INSTRUMENTAL SECTION the band keeps the cheerful ambience alive with their infectious performance…

Susie takes off her apron and starts twirlin’ it as she begins dancin’ right there in front of Kenny and the band.

The crowd gettin’ into it as her free spirit rides the chorus…

LYRICS

(Kenny singing)

In her dreams

she rides wild horses

and they carry her away

on the wind

And they never make a sound

as they fly above the ground

Tonight she rides wild horses

again

Start to fall back and wide…

And out the window of the diner/bar as we can still see Susie dancin’ the night away until…

LYRICS

In her dreams

she rides wild horses

and they carry her away

on the wind

And they never make a sound

as they fly above the ground

Tonight she rides wild horses

again

FADE OUT:

For me, these are the lyrics that hit home…

Her life ain’t always gonna be this way

She knows she’s gonna shine someday
