FADE IN:

To a series of wipe and find shots:

  • we wipe and find a pair of black shiny dress shoes performing some quick and killer dance steps. (Extreme close-up)
  • we wipe and find a pair of sneakers during the same. (Extreme close-up)
  • back to shot A
  • back to shot B

Another series of wipe and find shots:

  • wipe and find an over-the-shoulder shot of a waiter (Michael) rushing a tray full of food from a restaurant kitchen to dining area.
  • Wipe and find a wet hand lifting the door of a steaming dishwasher and pulling out a tray of clean dishes from one end and sliding in a tray of dirty dishes from the other. Then pulling the door back down and starting it up.
  • Wipe and find, starting from a low angle we track on a couch as its lifted by the same pair of hands on one side and carried into a moving truck.
  • Wipe and find a close-up of those hands serving food from tray to table.
  • Wipe and find a close-up of those hands quickly stacking dishes.
  • Wipe and find a pair of sneakers walking in reverse as we track up on those same hands moving more furniture.

END SERIES OF SHOTS

LYRICS

(gasps)

OWE

Extreme close-up, those black shiny shoes still movin’ miraculously on a stage and finally slowing down as they slide forward and we tilt up on Michael and his waiter wear. (still movin’ his feet to the beat)

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

Ooh my honey

You got me workin‘ day and night
Ooh my sugar

You got me workin’ day and night

Close-up, Michael rotates his right shoulder…

Lyrics

Scratch my shoulder

MATCH CUT:

Close-up, Michael’s shoulder comes out of the rotation as we fall back on him surrounded by furniture. Dressed accordingly, he turns the move into the start of more dancing.

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

It’s aching

Make it feel alright

When this is over

lovin’ you will be so right

He uses a stepping stool to launch into the air and lands on a polished table, hitting the surface dancing.

LYRICS

(Michael Singing)

I often wonder

if lovin’ you will be tonight

Dancing in place…

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

But What Is Love Girl

if I’m always out of sight

Extreme close-up, Michael’s feet goes into a spin.

MATCH CUT:

Extreme Close-Up, Michael’s spinning shoes (now on stage) come to a sudden stop, freezing on tip toes…

LYRICS

Ohhh…

… And go right back to the funky dance moves as camera falls back on him.

LYRICS

You Got Me Workin’ Day and Night

and I’ll be workin’

from sun up to midnight

Michael and his backup dancers perform their infectious dance routine…

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

You got me workin’

workin’ day and night

You got me workin’

workin’ day and night

You got me workin’

workin’ day and night

You got me workin’

workin’ day and night

Michael falls back as if exhausted, a couple of his dancers catching him just in time and flinging him back up into a spin…

LYRICS

(gasps)

 MATCH CUT:

…Coming out of his spin he SINGS from his dishwashing station.

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

You say that workin’

is what a man’s supposed to do

and I say it ain’t right

if I can’t give sweet love to you

(Ah)

I’m tired of thinkin’

of what my life’s supposed to be

(well)

Soon enough darlin’

this love will be reality

(Ah Ah)

Michael rips off his dishwashing apron…

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

How can you live girl

’cause love for us was meant to be

(well)

… Tosses it out of frame…

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

Then you must be seein’

some other guy instead of me

… And goes into the moonwalk. (Extreme close-up on his shoes)

LYRICS

(Ooh)

As if he’s truly on the moon, (or a sudsy floor for that matter) Michael performs some crazy slip-n-slide moves.

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

(that’s why)

You got me workin’ day and night

and I’ll be workin’

from sun up to midnight

MATCH CUT:

Back up on stage with his backups during the CHORUS routine.

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

Chorus

The dancers fall back as Michael goes into a solo.

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

(hoo hoo hoo)

Really quick close-up on him, then WITH EVERY SWITCH UP BETWEEN GUITAR STRINGS he performs a different gravity-defying move. (There are seven)

AS THE SECTION WRAPS UP WITH MORE QUICK SWITCH UPS we do four quick close-ups on Michael’s amazing footwork.

LYRICS

You say that workin’

Finishing up his solo, the backups subtly merging back in right behind him.

Ending his part Michael and his dancers do this little four-part move of going for their jacket pocket. (The one by their lapel)

LYRICS

(Ad Libs)

MATCH CUT:

Starting from an Extreme close-up of Michael’s jacket pocket we fall back as he pulls a billfold from it…

LYRICS

Is what a man’s supposed to do

… But he doesn’t even have the chance to bring his hand completely down before his girl snatches the cash from it.

He tries to lean into her for some lovin’…

LYRICS

I say it ain’t right girl

… But she gives him the ol’ sly chicken neck turn and hurries off.

LYRICS

If I can give sweet love to you

She looks back to him long enough to blow him a kiss before exiting the front door of the restaurant.

LYRICS

(well, ah)

Turning away from the empty space that the advantage-taker just occupied, Michael’s rhythmic movement starts back up.

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

How can you live girl

’cause love for us was meant to be

(well)

Then you must be seein’

(Woo)

some other guy instead of me

(Ooh)

(that’s why)

He rushes back through the dining area and towards the stage. (Slip-slide dancin’ on the way there)

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

Got me workin’

day and night

(I don’t understand it)

and I’ll be workin’

from sun up to midnight

Hoppin’ back up on stage he and his backups go straight into their routine.

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

Chorus

Michael goes into a spin…

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

(Owe…)

THE SWITCH UP BETWEEN GUITAR STRINGS COMES IN AGAIN, only this time we do the opposite effect. He goes into the gravity-defying moves EVERY TIME THE STRINGS COME IN, wiping and finding him BETWEEN THEM when he starts to go into another.

Michael finishes up his solo.

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

(Ad Libs)

His dancers merge back in and do the routine as he joins in with them every now and then but mainly sticks to his own moves. (As we slowly fall back to…)

LYRICS

(Michael singing)

Chorus
